• Conduct research into the structures and properties of materials such as glass, ceramics and substrates utilized in the armor industry. • Determine was to strengthen, combine and develop new material solutions with specific properties to meet military performance specs. • Testing design and evaluation of the effects of various conditions with armor solutions. • Technical liaison with suppliers and customers. • Prepare reports and documentation on findings and incorporate into manufacturing process. • Recommend materials for reliable performance in various environments for armor solutions. • Research methods of processing • Test material samples for tolerance under conditions that replicate fielded products determining success and failure analysis. • Confer with internal/external customers to determine how materials can be tailored to suit performance specs. • Monitor production processes in order to ensure that equipment is used effectively and efficiently to produce quality outcomes. • Visit suppliers of materials or users of products in order to gather and build a data base of materials for development and production. • Lead and assist in writing SBIR’s for government funded research.
• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science required; Masters in Materials science or PHD preferred.
• 3+ years experience with glass materials, composites strongly preferred
• Experience with military specs as it relates to armor is strongly preferred.
